PASTELS ARE BACK

FW 2015 pastels overview

FW 2015 pastels overview by christinewprivate featuring a red leather purse

#TRENDS Pastels are back again and that is perfect, since I haven't even packed nor given aways the pastel clothing pieces from the previous light colored season few years backwards. FW 15 (fall winter 2015) star was no doubt Prada, whose pink and light blue dresses have made it already to magazine covers, like Harper's Bazaar. Light colors towards winter for me is a tricky combination since I automatically turn darker, clothing wise, when the leafs come down. Supposedly I am just going to play it safe and accompany my camel jacket with some nude loafers, and maybe wear them with pastel shirt.. We will see. How about you, are you more pastel or darker tones kind of individual?

CHANEL FALL 2015 READY TO WEAR: YOUR MOTHERS CLASSICAL SHOES ARE BACK!

#PRIVATEFAVORITES As we have witnessed by looking up our calendar, summer is ending and fall is – well, here when it comes to fashion. Fall 2015 ready to wear shows have given us a lot to think about, but luckily we are able to update our look pretty easily with few classic pieces.
Chanel is always the one from where I start and this preview is no exception. Luckily the show is built around classical chanel look, tweed and those shoes that your mother or grandmother already has! There were many of them in the market – but I'm pretty sure after this the pre-owned designer websites run out of these fast, if they haven't done that already. Oh my satisfaction, when I get to say that throwing nor giving things aways is never a good idea because they might will be re-born as old new trends. That's why we love and hate fashion.

After this spectacle and walk down to the memory lane, we need to take a look of the outfit details. Too beautiful, too elegant and tasteful! Chanel never fails, and although this collection contained a lot of timeless pieces, these photos just melt our hearts.

Well? Any thoughts? Was I right or what? We adore the materials (so soft and fluffy) and the patterns of course, not to mention the color scheme! If this is fall, bring it on I say! All photos from Style.com where you can view all the images from this collection and details.

GIRL WITH LV BAG & NO PERSONALITY; WHY TO BUY LUXURY GOODS

Image from Pinterest.com
#OPINION I need to write this open. And just hope, that people would not be so arrogant and wrong about things they don't know.

LUXURY GOODS, LV PLASTIC BAGS AND WE WHO HAVE NO PERSONALITY
I came a cross an comment, from my friend on Facebook where he questioned “why people want to buy an expensive plastic bag that everyone has”. This conversations was lit up by an article about the current state of the hierarchy of luxury brands (Business Insider, March 2015). As the text pointed out, luxury items and labels are the most efficient “way to show off wealth, and there is a flood of new millionaires around the world who like showing off”. The wide spreading of the luxury goods and their trend value has caused an expected reaction among the superrich. As the luxury brands become easily accessible for everyone, their popularity decreases in these elite circles. Article gives us an harsh example: Louis Vuitton “is considered a brand for secretaries by many wealthy Chinese”. You can find the article here.

As the commenting to why people put money on expensive bags that everyone has continued, naive accusations like “most people don't have personality” was thrown in the air and that is usually when my blood gets boiling.

To return to the original article about the pyramid of luxury brands, for everyone who has taken interest in luxury industry during the last five or ten years – Business Insiders article wasn't news. Here is a chart used in the article also, which illustrates the pyramid of luxury brands (photo from The Bling Dynasty).

We all have our own different reasons why some of us are so devoted to consuming luxury goods and prefer the expensive Louis Vuitton plastic bag over some cheaper version of it from H&M etc. But what I tried to do here for you, was to gather some reasons and wise quotes why luxury items would actually be a better investment in many cases. Now, I'm not trying to start a war or say that high-end goods are for everyone or the one and only right answer – I'm only giving some reason behind our choices to favor luxury brands and free those naive minds who claim that having a over popular Neverfull or Alma* means we lack personality.
*Neverfull and Alma are popular Louis Vuitton bags with classical design and huge demand.

PEOPLE WANT TO FEEL CONNECTED, PART OF SOMETHING
Our human nature drive us to reform groups and unions – so we have sport clubs, political views that separate or brings different people together, we have book clubs and cooking courses: for spending time around things we love and bring us pleasure. If luxury goods do the same for some people, why is it so hard to see as one way to feel part of some group, style and community?

For some, enjoying a beautiful and well made bag it's a dear hobby: some have golf, expensive watches, art or cars, why collecting luxury fashion or accessories is not seen the same way? Some collect butterflies – somebody explain how set of gorgeous designer bags for example is in any way different?

"BECAUSE FAST FASHION HAS SKEWED MOST PEOPLE'S PERCEPTIONS OF WHAT CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES ARE WORTH IN THE FIRST PLACE"
Amanda Mull from Purseblog.com: Fine materials cost money, as does employing skilled workers and paying them a fair wage. In a world filled with Forever 21s and H&Ms, it's easy to forget that those sorts of things still have value to some companies, and it warps shoppers' conceptions of how much it costs to make high-quality products. Don't let other people's opinions of how much things should cost make you feel guilty - they likely have no idea what they're talking about (blog post: 8 Reasons Spending $1,000 or More on a Bag is Totally Worth It).

"WHY I CAN'T AFFORD CHEAP"
Andy Budd: Too poor to buy cheap. That simple phase really resonated with me and has stuck with me ever since. Cheap is quick. Cheap is dirty. Cheap is disposable. Cheap breaks. Cheap costs money. It costs money to fix, it costs money to replace. Cheap seems like a good idea at the time but cheap fails when you most need it. Cheap is flimsy and unsatisfying. Cheap is inefficient. Cheap gets in your way. Cheap costs you time and it costs you customers. Cheap always cost you more in the end. That’s why I can’t afford to buy cheap. Can you? (Blog post by Andy Budd, 2009. Find the post here.)

HIGH-END GOODS ARE NOT USUALLY IMPULSIVE BUYS FOR MOST OF US
Perrie Samotin: Like social media, today’s world is also jam-packed with online promotions, flash sales, and deals. While these can be a fantastic if you’re legitimately in the market for something, they can be pretty dangerous for the casual shopper who—when she woke up this morning—had no idea she needed or wanted.. After all, most impulse buys end up causing serious cases of buyer’s remorse. (StyleCaster, 2014. Find the post here.)

LUXURY ITEMS (ESPECIALLY ACCESSORIES AND FASHION) USUALLY ARE MORE THAN ONE-SEASON WONDERS
My point exactly.

PERSONALITY: ALL FASHION IS COPYING
I'm not going to even go there with the comment that noted having a popular LV bag would be the thing for people who do not have personality – you think you have personality when you wear low-budget, no-label clothes mixed and matched. Like no one else has that same t-shirt, or sneakers? Really? If copying or mass trends means no personality, then the only way is to start making our own clothes then. But wait, you would still probably use same fabrics as someone else. This ain't working.

As the commenting got more heated, it was sarcastically presented that our brain has already made the purchase choice based on purely emotional reasons (like wanting to be cool and feel good) before it could go through rational reasons and maybe pros and cons of investing a high-end goods (bare in mind here, that we are talking about making the decision to buy expensive, quality item versus low-budget good). Now, we can totally assume that the brain functions this way, but it's really important to mention – this comprehends to all purchases that are meant to make us feel good and not just high-end goods.

Luxury and high-end goods do not always mean the well-known names and fashion houses like Prada, Cartier or Tag Heuer, but also the old, family companies who promote their roots and highly developed craftsmanship which is the luxury – what else?

All in all, we can wrap this topic up now. Luxury goods are not for everyones taste and that's the beauty of expressing yourself (note: personality?). Trends have always been the physical reflection of our culture at that state. Monogram patter or Chanel knitting can be viewed as our generations logo, statament and attitude. Hippy style and rock'n'roll eras have all been same kind of cultural mirrors – and people tend to forget that we are dealing with the same idea here! I am pretty sure I'm gonna face many more arrogant conversations about why on earth girls like me want to spend a lot of money for a plastic bag, that everyone has and with that reveal my lack of personality. Next time, I'm just gonna be like I can't even.

BILLEBEINO TAKING OVER THE WORLD

Billebeino launching their T-shirt collection (collaboration with Pure Waste Textiles) today!
#areyoubillebeino yet?
Billebeino is launching it's t-shirt collaboration collection today and you can shop them from billebeino.com. The brand is established by Finnish NHL hockey player Ville Leino, who is currently on try-out in Boston Bruins.

Right now there are beanies, caps and t-shirts available and we are sure the range of products will increase in the near future. Since Billebeino has a hardcore celebrity fan base from NHL players to actors, poker players, singers and rappers, Billebeino is growing to be the hottest (brick wall inspired) logo to be seen with.

Prices start circa 30 euros and up, so no need to worry that this cool and chic trend would be only targeted for the rich and famous.
Beanie for winter is definitely on my wish list!
All you hockey fans over there, #areyoubillebeino already?

VIDORRETA SHOES – FOR ESPADRILLE LOVERS

Picture http://www.calzadosvidorreta.com

For few years now, here in Finland at least the it summer chilling shoe has been espadrilles. They are light, comfy and completes your beachy outfits and looks. They have not been trash talked in the same way that maybe Uggs are, yet and for that matter are totally cool and approved in our circles. Because of various espadrille suppliers there are pairs with thin soles and fabrics that can't really handle the rough use (summer rains or wild yard parties). I'm one of those who buy multiply pairs per summer season because of two reasons: they are cheap and I like to have different colors to match my mood.
The city life during the summer allows you to enjoy your espadrilles, but they should be maybe a little bit stronger when it comes to materials. My newest shoe love is Vidorreta espadrilles in camouflage, which I bought yesterday at a sailing shop in Helsinki and got my pair around 50 €, lucky me (see my Instagram)! After strutting around in them all day yesterday and today, I'm in love and recommend everyone to discover this interesting shoe label. What would be better than enjoying summer in your chill city-meets-beach look and giving your feet the long needed vacation and spa treatment at the same time? Since there are no possibility to get any vesicles they truly are the best innovation after Uggs (don't take too seriously, but these kind of go to the same category of über comfy and out of duty shoe wear).

DUNE LONDON

I NEED MORE BLING AND LESS LIFE Dune London high heels, purchased from Tallinn (120 € pair, discover Dune shoes at www.dunelondon.com). I fell in love with this brand instantly and went home with two pairs of new shoes last Saturday after having lunch with my friend. I'm really tall on my own, so although I adore sky-high heels, for me it's sometimes better to strut around with shorter ones like these. I love especially the nude ones, what is your favorite?

FASHION: SUNDAY BALLET BAJADERA

SUNDAYS I USUALLY SLEEP IN AND JUST WONDER AROUND THE HOUSE looking for something wise to do. Yet, feel like doing nothing else but stay in bed and watch series. Today was different, in a good way. Me and my friend went to see a ballet, Bajadera and it was two hours of cultural soul food! I've really forgotten how much I enjoy performing arts and ballet especially. Bajadera was a typical love triangle, with tragic ending and traumatic yet glamorous scenes. I was really carried away from the first scene on.
I don't have outfit photo for you guys, I wore all black, dress with short fur coat but I took photo about the accessories - the details make the outfit after all, right?

FASHION: SLEEP TIGHT IN OSCAR DE LA RENTA

WHAT MAKES SLEEPING IN DE LA RENTA BETTER THAN IN BIG, DOG-EARED T-SHIRT? For some of us who seek fashion and quality in everything know that it is not a 9-to-5 thing. As you wake up in your silk sheets, one can feel extremely attractive without makeup and a little morning in the corner of your eye – it is all about starting the day in the best way and who wouldn't feel invincible in sheer, light and rosy Oscar De La Renta nightgown? Oscar De La Renta represents a Dominican American fashion genius who was trained by Cristóbal Balenciaga and worked a one of the couturiers for Jacqueline Kennedy, now there is a base to build a quality brand on.

Now we go to sleep and wake up like Kennedy, as Oscar De La Renta has provided us brand-maniacs a Pink Label collection, with sleeping and morning gowns. In Finland sold in Stockmann department store, also in various online shops worldwide. (Note: The prices really are not that bad as one might first think)

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

THIS YEAR WINTER CAME QUICK AND CHRISTMAS TIME EVEN QUICKER. There have been so many events, birthday parties, school tasks and national holiday celebrations that for me, this Christmas time came totally out of the blue. I haven't been able to feel the real merry feelings, no time for think about the presents or even make the vital decision where to actually spend the Christmas (in Helsinki or Tallinn). School assignment deadlines are banging the door (on behalf of the elves this year) and this whole stressing over holidays seems ridiculous because all the other "more" important stuff going on. My birthday party at least went ridiculously well and maybe I will post some photos here also, if they are suitable for some topic. This year still has been truly okay one, old friends have became even closer and I have taken care of family relationships ever better. It's all good, right?
Shoes and peals Chanel, fun jacket?
Body/dress H&M
So these are the only Christmas lights in my apartment in Tallinn. They are actually the only Christmas related decoration this year, no time for anything else. But I actually function sometimes better when there are several things going on and it decreases the stressing about unimportant things.
How have your December, the very merry month started and gone so far?
